Dr. Matthew Dolich is a board-certified UCI Health surgeon who specializes in trauma, acute and critical care. His clinical interests include complex reoperative surgery, minimally invasive hernia repair, as well as pediatric and adult trauma surgery.

Dolich earned his medical degree at the State University of New York’s Stony Brook University School of Medicine. He completed an internship and residency in general surgery at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York. Subsequently, he completed fellowships in both surgical critical care and trauma surgery at Jackson Memorial Medical Center/University of Miami School of Medicine, in Miami, Florida.

Dolich’s research interests include shock, resuscitation, diagnostic imaging of injured patients and surgical education. His work has been published in many peer-reviewed journals. He has co-edited two surgical textbooks and he is the author of book chapters on a wide range of surgical topics. His clinical expertise includes trauma/acute care surgery and surgical critical care, with particular interest in damage control techniques, complex reoperative surgery, minimally invasive hernia surgery and evidence-based medicine.

Dolich, who directs the UCI Medical Center’s Trauma Intensive Care Unit, is also assistant dean of Graduate Medical Education for the UCI School of Medicine. He has received awards for teaching medical students and residents throughout his career, and he remains an active mentor to many former surgical residents and fellows. He also has been an invited speaker at regional, national and international meetings and symposia. 

He is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American College of Surgeons, the Association of Program Directors in Surgery, the Association for Surgical Education, the Southern California Committee on Trauma, and the Pacific Coast Surgical Association.
